7. The educational goal of the bachelor's program and the professional competencies

  • The training aims to train pop music performers who have the electrotechnical, instrumental, and vocal technical knowledge and skills typical of the genre, and with their performing skills, they can perform active, collaborative, or pop music management tasks in various musical bands, and in the operation of musical or cultural institutions, according to their professional competence. They are prepared to continue their studies in a master's program.

7.1. The professional competencies to be acquired

7.1.1. The Pop Musician

a. Knowledge

  • The pop musician has comprehensive knowledge of the eras, trends, and the most outstanding ensembles of universal and Hungarian pop music history.
  • Knows the musical theoretical background, harmonics that form the basis of his pop music performance art, the harmony and format, the different light music styles, and genres.
  • Pop musicians are familiar with the fundamentals of performing pop music both solo and in a band, as well as the connections between pop music and other artistic mediums.
  • Pop musicians are knowledgeable about the social and cultural aspects of pop music bands, as well as the formal frameworks and content of their management and operation.
  • The pop musician is aware of the ethical rules for pop music performance art and the most basic copyright issues.
  • Has basic knowledge of the history and conceptual structure of philosophy.
  • The pop musician is skilled at recording audio and possesses a basic understanding of studio technology.
     

b. Abilities

  • The pop musician can independently evaluate the pop music works he has learned and performed from the aspect of their historical, genre, stylistic, and entertainment functions.
  • Based on his understanding of pop music compositions, he can interpret the sheet music to create an authentic performance.
  • Able to recognize, write down, and memorize or freely handle and adapt various pop music materials after listening.
  • In a variety of group musical and general art activities, he can participate creatively and adaptably while maintaining effective communication.
  • Capable of providing innovative support to musical groups and cultural establishments while actively participating in their activities.
  • He can speak adequately on basic questions related to the history of philosophy, and to use the correct conceptual system.

c. Attitude

  • He can become knowledgeable about philosophy, the arts, and pop music's place and function in this context.
  • He has a clear understanding of pop music literature, the conventions surrounding various musical styles, and particular entertainment music productions.
  • He is willing to participate in collaborative art and music projects, adjusting as needed.
  • He intentionally considers the social implications of the pop music performance art that he creates.
  • It strives to comply with the ethical standards of light music performance art.

d. Autonomy and Responsibility

  • As a pop musician, he understands that through his actions, he represents not only himself in society but also the ideals of excellent musical entertainment.
  • He is well-versed in written publications about his activities and continues to focus on pop music scene developments.
  • Involvement in the development of pop music performance art productions is transparent and communicative.
  • He understands how his actions in the performing arts affect the community and society.
  • Acknowledges and accurately communicates the social role, purpose, and ideals associated with his area of expertise.
  • His professional orientation has been established.
  • On stage, he safely performs the instrumental routine tasks according to his specialization.
  • The instrumental performer maintains performance standards per their area of expertise.
  • Based on instructions, knowledge level, and professional orientation as an instrumentalist or singer, he selects his program using a value-preserving and value-exploring methodology.
  • As a result of his solo and group work, he delivers excellent performances in instrumental productions.

8. Characteristics of the BA program

8.1. Professional Characteristics

8.1.1. The disciplines leading to the professional qualification, the fields of expertise from which the major is built:

  • the professional knowledge related to the development of musical skills together with the credits assigned to the diploma concert are 100-120 credits, within which the specialization is 47-54 credits;
  • theoretical and historical background of popular music art mediation 35-45 credits;
  • audio-technical knowledge 8-10 credits;
  • intellectual modules 4-6 credits;
  • other skills (professional language, managerial skills) 6-8 credits.

8.1.2. The specializations and credit ratio of the specializations within the training: pop music guitar, pop music bass guitar, pop music keyboards, pop music saxophone, pop music trombone, pop music trumpet, pop music percussions, pop music vocals in specialization:

  • the main subject of the chosen instrument or singing is at least 40-45 credits;
  • the methodology of playing an instrument and additional training elements are at least 7-9 credits.

8.2. Foreign language requirement

  • To obtain the basic degree, a state-recognized, intermediate level (B2), complex-type language exam or an equivalent graduation certificate or diploma is required in a living foreign language.

8.3. Professional practice requirements

  • Performer practice, as defined by the higher education institution's curriculum, is closely linked to the process of developing skills and corresponds to the specialization. Examples of performer practice include concert performances and galas.
