I warmly welcome all those who are interested in the website of the Institute of Contemporary Pop Music of the University of Debrecen.
The Institute of Pop Music is the teaching-research coordination and education service unit of the University, which assumes a pioneering role in Hungary and the Central and Eastern European region.
Our primary objective is to teach students who are interested in pop music and who already have musical experience in a unique, university-level institution to sing and play on the instruments most often used in pop music genres and to introduce them to the world of participating in a pop music bands and studio technology.
Our training courses are taught by instructors with excellent professional and practical knowledge who have already made a name for themselves in the pop music industry. This ensures that students who are accepted into the program receive instruction from instructors with competent backgrounds in both their personal and professional lives. Our courses are coupled with frequent chances for skill demonstration, tests, auditions, and stage performances, which also provide the public with an update on our students' academic progress and outcomes.
Starting in September 2023, our students can obtain a state-recognized degree in the following specializations in the Contemporary Pop Music bachelor's program, which can be an entry point into the world of professional pop musicians:

- pop music bass guitar
- pop music keyboard
- pop music saxophone
- pop music trombone
- pop music trumpet
- pop music percussions
- pop music singing
The bachelor's program is primarily recommended for people who wish to become the first graduate pop musicians in the nation, who are committed, have a solid foundation in music, and want to handle this musical trend professionally.
In the 2023/2024 academic year, our bachelor's degree program started on a full-time program in hungarian language, but from the 2024/2025 academic year it will be available in part-time program and full-time program in english language. The training is available in the form of state scholarships and self-financing.
Apart from the bachelor's degree, we also offer the University of Debrecen's unique Online Certificates Program and optional pop music courses, which are available to both Hungarian and international students. The institute's website has comprehensive information about these courses.
In addition to these, our tasks also include the coordination of courses related to popular music and the music industry at the University, development of curriculum, teaching and research human resources, and provision of practical training places.
